What is cancellation of removal?

Cancellation of Removal or Deportation for Non-Permanent Residents. Cancellation of Removal or Deportation, otherwise referred to as deportation suspension, is often used as a remedy for someone facing the deportation process in immigration court.

It is an immigration relief that someone in the deportation process can use before an immigration judge as long as they meet certain essential criteria.

Have been in the U.S. continuously for at least 10 years, at the time the deportation process starts.

Have good moral character. (clean criminal record and having filed tax returns)
Demonstrate that your deportation would cause extreme harm to your close relatives.
