Asylum Petition

Story About Our Firm

What is asylum?

Asylum is a form of protection that allows an individual to remain in the United States instead of being removed (deported) to a country where they fear persecution or harm. Under US law, people who flee their countries because they fear persecution can apply for asylum. If they are granted asylum, this gives them protection and the right to remain in the United States.

Reasons to request your asylum:

Conditions:
  • Being within the United States
  • Having a reasonable fear that their life, liberty or integrity are being threatened.
  • Having been a victim of some type of violence against him, and/or his family, his social group, colleagues, close friends, associates, in the past, in the present, or in the belief that it may happen in the future. Become a victim of such Persecution for fundamental reasons.

Motivations:

  • Race
  • Religion
  • Nationality
  • Political reasons
  • Belonging or membership in a specific social group.

Restrictions for applying for asylum:

  • If you exceeded the deadline to submit the Application for Asylum and Extension of Removal (I-589) in a period not exceeding one year from your last entry to the US.
  • If you were previously denied an application for asylum by an Immigration Judge or by the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Committed political crimes outside of the United States.

  • You resided for an extended period in another country before coming to the United States.
